With many sports having been invented in England it is perhaps safe to say that we are a sporting nation and indeed we are a nation that loves its sports. Some major competitive sports including tennis, cricket and soccer (more commonly referred to as football) stem from the British Isles and most sports are accessible to just about everyone. Historically sports were the pastimes of the wealthy, but all that has since changed and they are now a leisure time pursuit or a means of keeping fit and for some even, a full time career opportunity. England is home to some great champions on the worlds sporting stage and this encourages many to view sport as a form of entertainment giving rise to numerous supporters/fan clubs and there are many opportunities to watch sport both on television and be a spectator at matches etc.
